Marijuana should Not Be Confused With Hemp

The marijuana plants might be referred to as hemp by some people, but that is not an accurate name, because these are two different species from the same botanical family. The marijuana plant is botanically known as Cannabis Stavia and Cannabis Stavia Indica and the hemp plant is botanically known as Cannabis Stavia or the Industrial hemp.

They both come from the nettle family in the botanical world and while their names have a similarity they are also very different. The marijuana plant is grown only for its effects when smoked and the industrial hemp plant is grown for far different reasons, such as foods, materials and textiles.

One of the largest differences between the two is that the industrial hemp plant does not have the level of THC that is found in the marijuana plant. The hemp plant contains less than .01 percent of THC and unlike the marijuana crop the seeds from the industrial hemp are important. They are used for making oil, milk and eating.

The botanical properties THC are Tetra Hydro Cannabinol for which the marijuana crop is grown and the industrial hemp plant is missing.

The industrial hemp plant is used for items from milk to paints, the seeds are used in making oil for eating and cooking and it is also made for making paints and a type of oil like linseed. The milk that is made from the seeds is comparable to rice and soy milk, without the properties that cause allergic reactions and with more health properties.
