What Is The Difference Between The Male And Female Plants

The difference between the male and female marijuana plants is the male produces pollen to pollinate the female plant, which makes it produce seeds. The female plant that is not pollinated will produce more buds and contain more THC, because it will continue to produce it.

When the female plant is not pollinated it is referred to as sinsemilla, this means without seeds. The female cannabis will show its gender when the pistils, which are a V shape begin to show and males usually will show their gender approximately 3 weeks prior to the female and that is usually undesirable to the grower.

There is also a hermaphrodite marijuana plant, this plant is able to pollinate itself and the other female plants near it. This can result in ruining a sinsemallia crop and the seeds can also be useless from this plant.

When the female plant is pollinated it will then produce seeds and in most crops the percentages of male plants is usually between 40 and 50 percent. The male is usually harvested prior to it being able to pollinate the female plants in the crop, unless it is a male plant that will be used for breeding purposes. Having an indoor crop the males are usually taken out of the room so there is no pollination, this is because the male plant can pollinate all of the female plants in the room.
