Germinating Seeds For A Hydroponics Crop

Germinating seeds for the hydroponics crop is done a little different than for other types of indoor crops. Once the seed has been soaked and germinated in the usual way, between paper towels or sponges, when the root is approximately a quarter of an inch long it is then placed in grow cubes or a rockwool cube and surrounded with the growing medium.

The hydroponics garden should be setup and working correctly prior to germinating the seeds. So that when they are ready to be placed in rockwool or another chosen media they can then begin receiving the nutrients they will need to grow.

When placing the seed in rockwool the quarter inch root must always be placed in the media facing down in order for a plant to grow from it and the roots to continue to grow.

When using rockwool, the cube should be about 70 percent submerged in water. The trick with this is, and while keeping the rockwool submerged the top must be kept above water. The seed should never be submerged, as this would rot the seed and kill the plant before it ever begins to grow.

One thing that growers will need to remember with this type of gardening the rockwool or what ever media is used will not be giving the seed nutrients, unlike when growing indoors in soil. There is no soil to feed the plant nutrients in hydroponics gardening and the nutrients will come from the solution that will be given usually on a timer setup.
