When the plants are young they can spend longer time in the dark. The more darkness the plant receives during growing the sooner the plant will bloom. Marijuana plants that receive 12 hours of light of day tend to mature into 2 to 2 ½ months, however if they get 16 hours of light per day they usually will take three and half to four months to bloom. The cannabis that has received 18 hours of light a day will not bloom until it is between four and half in five months.

One of the ways to ensure that indoor marijuana plants receive the amount of light per day that they require is to place the lights on a timer. Timers can be found in hardware stores that are used to turn lights on and off, televisions and radios while people are on vacation, the same timers can be used for the lighting, which is used for the cannabis.
