What Is Soil pH
When testing the soil PH it is done using a scale from 1 through 14 that measures the acid to alkaline balance of the soil. On this scale the highest point of acidity will be a number 7 and the highest amount of alkaline will be a number 14.
Checking the level in the soil when growing marijuana is done with a soil test kit that can be purchased at nurseries or ordered on the Internet. This kit will contain either litmus paper or an electronic PH tester.
When testing the PH level for marijuana the best possible soil will have a PH range from 6 ½ to 7, this is because it allows the plant to absorb the amount of nutrients it will need to grow. When the PH is to low acid salts make it impossible for the cannabis roots to absorb the nutrients in the soil and it can also inhibit the amount of water that the roots will be able to absorb. When testing the PH level it is wise to check the soil two or three times to ensure the test is accurate, because the health of the cannabis plants depend on the soil having the proper PH balance.
Prior to using the test kit it is important to read the directions, as there will be a chart to explain what will need to be added to the soil. If the reading is not in the levels it should be for the marijuana plants to grow at their optimum. These directions can often be confusing so it is important to completely understand them and know how to use the chart properly.
