Seed Beginnings

The larges problem growers face after selecting the right seed for them and their growing area is whether to start seedlings indoors. If the seeds are germinated and started indoors they will need a certain amount of care moving them out to where the marijuana crop will be located.

Marijuana plants do not handle cool temperatures well; if the grower is in an area where they have cool climates they will need to check the temperature with a thermometer to be safe. At 50 degrees the seedlings can go into mild shock when moved outside and if the temperature dips to 40 degrees several times the plants will die.

When the seeds are germinated indoors and planted in seedling flats or peat pots moving them outdoors should be done slowly. The seedling should have at least 4 leaves before moving it outside. To keep it from going into mild shock it is best to lower the temperature approximately three days where the plants are growing indoors to match the outdoor temperature. Once the plant has adjusted it can then be taken to the location where the crop will be planted and transplanted into the soil. This will enable the marijuana plant to acclimate to the outdoor temperature and when planted instead of going into a mild form of shock it will take root and begin to grow.

If the temperature dips down into the 40 or 50 degree mark then it is possible to place plastic bags over the plants to keep them in a warmer climate, while this will help it is still possible to loose plants at these temperatures.
