Telling Male Plants From Female
For the inexperienced grower it is often difficult to tell a male plant from a female marijuana plant when they are young. It is an important thing to learn, as having any male plants can be a problem in a crop. When growing marijuana indoors it is essential to plant seeds that are females as it will be a small crop of only a few plants.
The difference is clear when the plants become mature enough to begin to flower, within one to three weeks prior the flowering cycle, the female cannabis pant will grow whit hairs known as pistils at the bud sites and the male plants will develop pollen sacks.
The female plants have the potential to turn male or hermaphrodite and the reason this can occur if the plants become stressed or when chemicals are applied in order to make the plants induce male flowering.
When planting indoors and want only sinsemilla buds it is important to make certain the pants are all females and that there are no males or hermaphrodites in plants.
Part of growing the indoor marijuana crop is the ability to choose the female seeds and to keep male plants away from the females in order to have a good crop with all the work that will be put into caring for the plants until it is time to harvest the crop. This is when it pays off to have all female plants in the indoor grow area.
